Sanskardham Vidyalaya for Hearing Impaired

Sanskardham Vidyalaya for Hearing Impaired (SVHI) is located in Goregoan, a western suburb of Mumbai (Bombay, India). The school is held in a single floor building containing 6 rooms. The school has about 6 teachers, 4 staff members, and a principal. SVHI gives education in English medium from kindergarten to 10th grade. SVHI has completed more than 10 years of operation.

Given the fact that the government support is almost none, it is hard for SVHI to even sustain day-to-day activities. The school is run mostly by selling the handmade crafts, such as penholder, bags, etc. which are made by the students, and on donations received.

Project:
Although the students cannot hear most of the sounds, they may hear some sounds if amplified. The benches in the school are wired to connect headphones. In the quest of improving the quality of education, the school is looking for funds to purchase equipment, which are a combined CD/VCD/DVD player and a projector. The instrument has been developed by Indian Institute of Technology and is an effective visual teaching-aid. For more information about about the equipment, please visit http://www.k-yan.com/
